Children are bullied when they're wearing brand-new designer clothes and have everything they need. So just imagine what it would feel like being bullied for something that is beyond your control. This is where The Compassion Projects shines. We are a charitable effort dedicated to providing basic necessities like clothes, toiletries, school supplies, and comfort items in a new backpack to the homeless students of Metro Atlanta. Our goal is to help these children focus on their education and giving them a chance to break the cycle of poverty.
Back in 2020 I (Heather Malone) was having dinner with a new friend who casually mentioned the struggles her homeless students face. Utterly shocked, I asked her to elaborate given I, like so many others had never considered homeless children. I left that evening saying I would give it some thought. That very night I made a request on Nex
Back in 2020 I (Heather Malone) was having dinner with a new friend who casually mentioned the struggles her homeless students face. Utterly shocked, I asked her to elaborate given I, like so many others had never considered homeless children. I left that evening saying I would give it some thought. That very night I made a request on Nextdoor that simply asked "who wants to help me help some homeless 5th graders" - the response was overwhelming and The Compassion Projects was born.
At The Compassion Projects, our mission is to help the homeless student population of Metro Atlanta by providing their basic-needs items so they can be present, focus in class, and get the education every child deserves.
Since that fateful dinner in 2020 our efforts have grown. We not only have an annual fundraiser in the fall to fill the brand new backpacks with everything a child would need to feel warm, clean, and safe, but we now also collect forgotten items from several schools' lost and found, wash and redistribute. We also serve families in crisis
Since that fateful dinner in 2020 our efforts have grown. We not only have an annual fundraiser in the fall to fill the brand new backpacks with everything a child would need to feel warm, clean, and safe, but we now also collect forgotten items from several schools' lost and found, wash and redistribute. We also serve families in crisis after an eviction or other life-altering event by providing clothing, shoes, and toiletries.
We provide backpacks filled with basic-needs items to local social workers in schools to have on-hand when a student comes to school in dirty or ill-fitting clothing.
We partner with schools to collect their unclaimed lost and found items, launder, then distribute to those in need.
We have the most beautiful and amazing quilts handmade by our very own volunteer Brenda and her friends at Brown Sugar Stitchers Guild. These quilts are not only made with love, but each features a message to the recipient.
We are grateful to Christ the King Church in Peachtree Corners for allowing us to work out of two rooms where we keep donations. And twice a year they allow us to have a clothing and shoe drive.
We love being a resource for students and their families in emergency situations. When a social worker notices a child in need they simply let us know what sizes/genders and we pull from our inventory then deliver to the school.
Join us in making a difference. Whether you want to donate, volunteer, or simply learn more, there are many ways to get involved and support our work.
Sometimes making a difference can be as easy as ordering a box of pencils. Here's our ongoing Amazon Wish List.

Besides donations of items, we also need helping hands. If interested, shoot us an email > heather@thecompassionprojects.org
